New motherboard for the Commodore 1541 floppy drive, Part II

New 1541 Controller Board

Here now the promised 2nd part about a new system board for the floppy drive VC1541 from Commodore. A complete redesign and the merging of different projects into a new controller board was my goal.

EasyFlash³ – Flashing the different components

If a new Easyflash3 module was assembled, the individual components, such as the FTDI chip, the CPLD and also the flash are still empty and therefore the module is not ready for use. Or one of the ICs was replaced after a defect and must now be reprogrammed. But also a simple update can be necessary from time to time. Assuming a fresh Windows 10 installation, I describe the procedure to initialize an Easyflash3 completely or to perform an update.

EasyFlash³ – Problems with the CPLD

EasyFlash³ - Probleme mit dem CPLD

The EasyFlash³ module is still a popular accessory for the Commodore C64. And meanwhile you can get the single components from Asia for small money. However, there are sometimes one or the other stumbling block here and there. Today I want to give some tips about the problems that can occur with the CPLD and how to fix them.

TriMod CBM Adapter – One Commodore Floppy for two worlds

TriMod CBM Adapter - One Commodore Floppy for two worlds

IEEE-488 floppies for the CBM world are very rare and expensive. Why not just take a cheap VC1541 and expand it with an IEEE-488 connector, but without losing the serial IEC connector. With the TriMod CBM adapter the floppy can do both. It can be connected e.g. to a C64 via the serial connection, or e.g. to a CBM 8032 via the IEEE-488 connection.
